Framing Conversation Partnerships as Service-Learning: Why and How

Powerpoint presentation for AATSP 2012, San Juan, Puerto Rico
Abstract:

When Spanish-English conversation partners view their interaction within a service-learning framework emphasizing reflection, they perceive their language use as authentic and meaningful.  Technologies such as Skype allow individuals and classes to form international communities based on mutual goals of service and learning.  This is one way that the many benefits of service-learning can be accessed even where the local Spanish-speaking population is small.  Resources for initiating partnerships and sample reflection activities will be shared.
